Presidential Garbage
If I was a journalist...
I would write about things the way I honestly see them. This won't please everyone, of course, because we all see things differently.
Then along comes a man of high rank, and says my news is fake. I can let that go. But then he does it again and again, and he never gives examples of what is fake.
After a while, and human nature being what it is, if someone keeps attacking me, I'm going to fight back. Bear in mind that there are many thousands of journalists, all writing news as they see it, and many being accused of publishing fake news if the man of high rank doesn't agree with it.
Enough is enough! As a journalist I'm now going to dig up every piece of dirt I can find on the person of high rank. I'll even add my own twist to my writing, knowing full well that it's going to aggravate him. Well, if he's going to accuse me of being a fake, I might as well live up to it.
Now if I was a person of high rank, and some parts of media wrote negatively about me, I'd ignore it. Instead, I'd go on Twitter only to mention what I'm doing for the good of the country. I know that if I fight back it will only encourage them to keep up the attacks. I remember that I said, earlier, I would fight back, but the office of president ought to be a place of dignity, not engaging in squabbles with journalists. I would know that my policies would not suit everyone and that they would be open to criticism; that's fair.
I think this is what's been happening in recent years. Sadly, thousands have parroted the "fake news" accusation which has led to a massive division in the nation, and not only division but hatred, and social media has provided the platform to enable it. Perhaps this is why social media bosses have cracked down on the attacks. They are between a rock and a hard place, being accused of censorship while trying to stop fake memes and comments.
Will it all stop under a new president? Of course not! Look for continuing attacks on a recent president by some in the mainstream media, and for attacks on the mainstream media by those who unquestioningly follow their now defunct leader even when he's wrong.
